Rooty lake lounger

A got a email and a picture a month ago. This soon to be client of mine ask if I could carve this in to a lounge chair(see picture on the left). In all honesty my first response was yes because I always say yes. The challenge is just too tempting. I knew I could do it but I could just image all the rocks and dirt in that thing. My chains have a way of destroying themselves on rocks and dirt. In fact I laid that out to in my email back to the gentlemen as well as my willingness to carve him a lounger. He agreed to power wash it and away we went. I bought a special grinder wheel with carbide teeth figuring It would save on chains. It worked really well until it bit in to a few rocks and broke off half the teeth. As I ground away on this crazy piece of wood I started to think about this project more. I see a man that likes the unusual. Early I spoke with him about his house remodel and toured the structure. The remodel is reclaimed material, sod roofs, and well thought out design. I see that this guys imagination works in reality. This lounge chair is not an extravagant item but a necessary part of this mans personal vision. I am truly honored to draw out this vision. Simply inspirational.

Gnominal space.

This guy finds a home today. I hope my son doesn't mourn his passing. This is one of his favorite landmarks in my studio garage. Which is complete in disarray today(and most days.) It is trying to function as a 25' x 60' barn sized studio but is limited by it's 25' x 20' allocation. Losing the gnome will at least create space to walk. Yep. Some time soon I will have that giant studio of my dreams. There will be plenty of space and equipment. Which brings me to the Wish List 2010...stay tuned...

I am cranking this beast back up. I am not sure if this is real of fake but I am going to blog once again. I am not sure if this is vanity or reality. I would like to really put it out there as the unalienable truth. Please wish me luck. I am human.

Above is a carving I created as a special gift from the bride-to-be to the groom-to-be. So sweet what a great gesture. I was nervous about getting this carving sent on time for an April 9th delivery. So I sent it on April 5th figuring that was plenty of time to get a package from Minneapolis to Chicago. I even left the drop-off site with a swagger knowing that I was destine for a perfectly timed delivery. Fast forward to April 9th I receive an e-mail saying that the package has not arrived. So I call the delivery company. They check with the location that it was last tracked and the truck was hijacked. So much for my timing. I felt terrible but my sweet heart of a client found the humor in this. Which is a such a beautifully human understanding of this life. It's an unpredictable and constantly changing wild masterpiece which defies human convention. Most of our stresses come from not understanding this principle truth.
